A guide for both beginners and adepts to a self-sufficient biped Grand-Master Crafter.

Foreword:

This guide is written specifically for people who wish to play a self-sufficient Grand-Master Crafter from rating 1 to rating 234, but can be useful to pretty much everyone that is new to the world of biped crafting.

Every time this guide mentions "Crafting" an item, this implies using the deconstruct (or auto-deconstruct) feature to gain additional exp.

Leveling Order:

BLACKSMITH (BLK) to level 13
  • Reason: At level 13 BLK you will have the 100 metalworking required to join TINKERER.
  • Level by:
    • Smelting metal bars.
    • Craftng metal tools.
  • Tools needed: Mining Pick, Smelting Tongs, Smithing Hammer
  • Tips and notes:
    • Guran offers quests that will give you free formulas for various tools and weapons, as well as some xp and coin upon completion.
    • If they can be restored, the rebuildable structures in New Trismus are a great early source of xp and coin!

    TINKERER (TNK)+MINER (MIN) to 100

    • Reason: These two schools combined are the metal aspect of Blacksmith but better, at the offset of needing to level 2 schools. Later on you will also be able to make your own cargo armor and disks.
    • Level by:
      • MIN: Smelting metal bars OR Smelting blighted metal bars and then cleansing them.
      • TNK: Crafting metal tools with the bars created by MIN.
    • Tools needed: Mining Pick, Smelting Tongs, Smithing Hammer.

      • Tips and notes:
        • The blighted resources path will give significantly more experience as you will be able to double dip; Cleansing blighted resources simply takes the processed blighted resource and the regular processing skill (e.g. Smelting for bars), allowing for 2 cycles of xp from a single round of gathering.

        BLACKSMITH (BLK) to 100

        • Reason: Gaining wood and stone processing skills.
        • Level by:
          • Smelting Mithril Bars and crafting Mithril Tools.
        • Tools needed: Mining Pick, Smelting Tongs, Smithing Hammer.
        • Benefits from: TNK's Metalworking, MIN's Mining & Smelting.

        GATHERER (GTH)+Fletcher (FLT) to 100

        • Reason: Gaining essence and fabric processing skill from GTH, FLT just so you have a use for all the wood boards you will be making.
        • Level by:
          • GTH: Creating Yew Boards OR Creating Blighted Yew Boards and then cleansing them.
          • FLT: Crafting Yew Weapons with the boards created by GTH.
        • Tools needed: Tree Axe, Wood Saw, Board Plane.
        • Benefits from: BLK's Logging, Lumbering, and Woodworking.

          OUTFITTER (OUT) to 100

          • Reason: Gaining Tailoring, Armorcraft, and Jewelcraft skills.
          • Level by:
            • Creating Ironsilk Spools.
            • Crafting Ironsilk Backpack Pouches.
          • Tools needed: Harvest Knife, Fabric Scissors, Sewing Needle.
          • Benefits from: GTH's Foraging & Spinning, TNK's Clothworking.

Congratulations, you've now got all the basics covered!

          Mix in Whenever

The following schools generally speaking do not provide benefits to leveling other schools (bar one exception in Enchanter) and thus can be mixed in at whatever point.

          ALCHEMIST (ALC)

          • Earliest point: After GTH.
          • Recommended point: After ENC.
          • Level by:
            • Shaping Tainted Shining Essence Orbs.
            • If Enchanting is high enough (800), use Expert Essence Orb Enchantment to turn the Tainted Shining Essence Orbs into regular Shining Essence Orbs.
            • Use Expert Essence Orb Enchantment to turn the regular Shining Essence Orbs into Purified Shining Essence Orbs.
            • Once Alchemy is high enough (900), turn Purified Shining Essence Orbs into Shining Tensile Suspensions.
          • Tools needed: Essence Harvesting Syphon, Essence Shaper, Alteration Wand.
          • Benefits from: GTH's Essence Harvesting and processing skills, ENC's Enchanting skill.
          • Tips and notes:
            • You can also level this school alongside ENC by sticking to on-tier essence and only doing the tainted->regular step, then using the regular essence for ENC.
            • You can further use the Shining Tensile Suspensions to make certain T5 potions, however, this requires a few more crafting steps.

          ARMORER (ARM)

          • Earliest point: After OUT.
          • Level by:
            • Smelting Mithril Bars.
            • Crafting Mithril Armor.
          • Tools needed: Mining Pick, Smelting Tongs, Smithing Hammer.
          • Benefits from: MIN's Mining & Smelting, OUT's Armorcraft.

          BUILDER SCHOOLS

          • Earliest point:
            • FITTER (FIT) & MASON (MSN) - alongside or after MIN.
            • CARPENTER (CRP), WEAVER (WVR), ENCHANTER (ENC) - alongside or after GTH.
          • Level by:
            • FIT: Creating and Applying Metal Construction Sheeting & Jointing
            • MSN: Creating and Applying Stone Construction Blocks & Keystones
            • CRP: Creating and Applying Wooden Construction Timbers & Braces
            • WVR: Creating and Applying Fabric Construction Bolts & Tapestries
            • ENC: Creating and Applying Essence Construction Spheres & Sources
          • Tools Needed:
            • FIT: Mining Pick, Smelting Tongs, Fitting Mallet
            • MSN: Mining Pick, Stone Chisel, Masonry Trowel
            • CRP: Tree Axe, Wood Saw, Carpentry Hammer
            • WVR: Harvesting Blade, Fabric Scissors, Weaving Awl
            • ENC: Essence Harvesting Sypon, Essence Shaper, Essence Structurer
          • Benefits from: MIN and GTH's harvesting and processing skills.
          • Tips and Notes:
            • Applying resources (putting them towards the construction of a structure) is where the vast majority of your experience will come from; close to three quarters of it!
            • Istariareference has a great set of tools for finding structures to apply resources to, both player and community owned!

          CONFECTIONER (CNF)

          • Earliest point: After GTH to at least 10.
          • Level by
            • Whichever food formula works best for you, leveling confectioner very much depends on personal preferences. There are a couple things to look out for however:
              • Sides and Desserts usually require the least amount of resources.
              • Try to avoid formulas that require eggs, milk & meat, these are only available from mobile resources with rather limited quantities on each "node" so you need to be very actively gathering.
              • Use formulas that require resources you can easily gather a lot of, most notably things like Salt, Pepper, Wheat, and Sugar.
              • If you have a lot of coin to throw around, consider going for formulas that use bought resources, since that cuts down on time spent gathering by a lot.
          • Tools needed: Mining Pick, Harvest Knife, Fishing Pole, Baking Spatula, Cooking Knife, Bucket, and Mixing Spoon.
          • Benefits from: Potentially the Foraging and Preparing from GTH, but as you will be working on tier and CNF also gains foraging and preparing the benefit can be mostly disregarded.
          • Tips and notes:
            • There's a ton of hidden quests for CNF, most if not all of which can be found on the school's Lexica Page.

          JEWELER (JWL)

          • Earliest Point: After OUT.
          • Level by:
            • Creating Tier 5 Cut Gems and Mithril Bars.
            • Crafting Tier 5 Jewelry.
          • Tools needed: Mining Pick, Gem Cutter, Smelting Tongs, Jewelry Pliers.
          • Benefits from: MIN's Quarrying & Gemworking, OUT's Jewelcraft.

          SCHOLAR (SCH)

          • Earliest point: After BLK.
          • Level by:
            • Creating Marble Bricks.
            • Crafting Marble Tools.
          • Tools needed: Mining Pick, Stone Chisel.
          • Benefits from: MIN's Quarrying & Stoneworking, BLK's Sculpting.
          • Tips and notes:
            • Consider grabbing the Beginner Travel Scrolls (150 Scribing) to get a stash of travelling scrolls for the early cities (see tricks section for details)

          SPELLCRAFTER (SPL)

          • Earliest point: After BLK.
          • Level by:
            • Creating Marble Bricks.
            • Crafting Marble Tools.
          • Tools needed: Mining Pick, Stone Chisel.
          • Benefits from: MIN's Quarrying & Stoneworking, BLK's Sculpting.
          • Tips and notes:
            • Requires level 10 SCH to join.
            • Consider this SCH but worse due to the lack of Scribing, the improved skill gain isn't that great.

          TAILOR (TLR)

          • Earliest point: After OUT.
          • Level by:
            • Creating Yew Hide Tanning and crafting Essence Hide Armor; OR
            • Creating Ironsilk Spools and crafting Ironsilk Armor.
          • Tools needed: Harvest Knife, Bucket, Brew Stirrer, Sewing Needle, Sap Spigot, Tanning Blade OR Harvest Knife, Fabric Scissors, Sewing Needle.
          • Benefits from: GTH's Foraging and Tanning, OUT's Spinning, Tailoring and Leatherworking.
          • Tips and notes:
            • The choice between hide and fabric armor is mostly personal, Ironsilk Armor is far less steps however.

          WEAPONSMITH (WPN)

          • Earliest point: After TNK.
          • Level by:
            • Smelting Mithril Bars
            • Crafting Mithril Tools
          • Tools needed: Mining Pick, Smelting Tongs, Smithing Hammer.
          • Benefits from: TNK's Metalworking, MIN's Mining & Smelting.
